How I stay mentally and physically healthy during the holidays

The holidays are here, and so is the stress!

With all the gift-buying, party-going, and family drama, it's easy to let your mental and physical health go by the wayside. But it's important to take care of yourself during this time of year, so you can enjoy the holidays to the fullest.

Here are a few tips:

  • Set boundaries. It's okay to say no to invitations or activities if you're feeling overwhelmed. It's also okay to take some time for yourself each day to relax and recharge.
  • Make time for exercise. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress and improve your mood. Even a short walk or some yoga can make a difference.
  • Eat healthy foods. It's tempting to indulge during the holidays, but try to eat healthy foods most of the time. This will help you feel your best and avoid energy crashes.
  • Get enough sleep. Most adults need around 7-8 hours of sleep per night. When you're well-rested, you're better able to cope with stress and manage your emotions.
  • Connect with loved ones. Spending time with people you care about can help reduce stress and improve your mood. Make an effort to connect with friends and family members, even if it's just for a quick phone call or coffee date.

Here are a few more specific tips that I personally use:

  • Start each day with a few minutes of meditation or journaling. This helps me to clear my head and focus on the present moment.
  • Take a walk outside during my lunch break. Fresh air and sunshine are great for my mental and physical health.
  • Make time for my favorite hobbies, even if it's just for a few minutes each day. This helps me to relax and de-stress.
  • Say no to commitments that I don't have time for or that I'm not excited about. It's okay to put myself first sometimes.
  • Spend time with people who make me feel good. My loved ones are my support system, and I cherish the time we spend together.

The holidays can be a stressful time, but it's important to take care of yourself. By following these tips, you can enjoy the season to the fullest and come out the other side feeling refreshed and energized.
