Be the master of your denim destiny

I love denim! It's such a versatile fabric that can be worn in so many different ways.

A few years ago I found a business called, FABSCRAP,  that specializes in commercial textile recycling. It's great to see companies that are working to reduce waste and create sustainable products.

I'm also a big fan of sewing, and I love using untraditional fabrics like denim in my projects. It's always fun to see what kind of unique and interesting things one can create with a little bit of creativity and imagination.

I think it's important to take care of our clothes so that they last as long as possible. And denim is definitely one of those fabrics that can last for years with proper care.

Here are a few more tips that I've found helpful for caring for denim:

• Raw denim: Raw denim is denim that has not been washed or treated in any way. It is a very durable fabric, but it can be stiff and uncomfortable at first. To break in raw denim, you will need to wear it often and wash it infrequently. The more you wear it, the softer and more comfortable it will become.

• Distressed denim: Distressed denim is denim that has been intentionally distressed, such as by sanding, tearing, or bleaching. It is a very popular style of denim, but it can be difficult to care for. Distressed denim should be washed as infrequently as possible, and it should be washed in cold water with a gentle detergent. You should also avoid using fabric softener, as this can make the distressed areas of the denim look worse.

• Stretch denim: Stretch denim is denim that has been blended with a small amount of spandex or another stretchy fabric. This makes it more comfortable to wear and easier to move around in. Stretch denim can be washed in cold water with a gentle detergent, but you should avoid using fabric softener, as this can make the fabric less stretchy.

• Denim jackets: Denim jackets are a classic piece of clothing that can be worn for many years. To keep your denim jacket looking its best, you should wash it infrequently and hang it to dry. You should also avoid using fabric softener, as this can make the fabric less durable.
